Scholarships
Last month, SPA opened three different scholarships for our 2024 SPA Convention. IF you have already applied or are interested in applying please DO NOT register for the Convention until notices have been sent out in December. Click on scholarship name below to apply.
- Student Scholarship | This $430.00 scholarship award includes a complimentary member early-bird rate registration and one night hotel. International applicants may be awarded an additional travel stipend of up to $400 depending on the stated need and the number of applications received.
- Diversity Scholarship | This scholarship awards up to $1,100 which includes a complimentary member early-bird rate registration, one night hotel, and up to $500 for reimbursable expenses
- Early-Career Scholarship | This $650.00 scholarship award includes a complimentary member early-bird rate registration and one night hotel. International applicants may be awarded an additional travel stipend of up to $800 depending on the stated need and the number of applications received.

"I'm Depressed! Why Does 'Who I Am' Matter?" Millonian Approaches to Treatment Webinar

Depressive conditions in their heterogeneous forms continue to grow and cause ongoing concerns in many life domains from physical health to mental health, to overall diminishment in quality of life. Despite efficacious, evidence-supported treatment for the more obvious and immediate depressive symptoms, relapse and treatment resistance remain a persistent concern. From the Millonian perspective, depressive and other mental health conditions are conceptualized for their context with an individual's personality style, type, or disorder. Enduring patterns of perceiving, feeling, thinking, and behaving are rooted in self-perpetuating, repetitive cycles that tend to develop into vulnerabilities contributing to the recurrence of common but pervasive depressive symptomology. This webinar will explore a personalized lens that targets depressive symptoms through a coordinated and integrated treatment structure based in understanding the personality structure and its effects on perpetuating symptomology.

- Webinar Series: Join us Psychological Assessment Considerations: Working with Transgender, Gender Diverse, and Gender Expansive Individuals webinar series. This 6-session continuing education series is a collaborative effort by the Psychological Assessment Sections, The Society for Clinical Society (APA Division 12), and the Society for Psychology of Sexual Orientation and Gender Diversity (APA Division 44). - Education & Training Interest Group:
This year, the Education & Training Interest Group invited anyone submitting a symposium to present at SPA to reach out to us if they would like help finding a discussant for their symposium. Specifically, we offered to help identify an expert in the field to talk about the important implications of the author’s symposium for the next generation of psychologists and the future of assessment. We received one request from a symposium focused on assessment gaps related to exploring the relationship between interpersonal traumas and social relating/death awareness in diverse populations of adults and children survivors. The themes of this symposium include “interpersonal traumas (including neglect and abuse) in unexplored areas of cultural diversity, death anxiety, paternal influence and projective assessment of aggression.”
We are looking for an individual with knowledge and/or expertise in one or more of these areas that would like to serve as a discussant for the symposium (if the symposium is accepted).
